Dexter defeated central 40 to 20 and Mallory scored 20 points and surpassed the 1000 point markBy Jessica Bloch of the news staff - DEXTER - Mallory Ames scored 20 points, including the 1,000th of her career, as the Dexter girls basketball team beat rival Central 40-20 Friday night at Guiski Gymnasium.

It was the sixth straight win for the Tigers who move to 7-1. The Red Devils of Corinth fall to 5-6.

Ames scored 11 points in the third quarter as Dexter outscored Central 15-3 in the period. The Tigers pumped the ball inside all quarter, notching assists on six of their seven field goals that quarter. Katie Poirier scored twice in the third, once off an offensive rebound and another off a pass from Chelsea Chambers.

Chambers contributed eight points while Poirier grabbed eight rebounds. Ames had nine boards.

Erica Brownell led Central with seven points.

Ames entered the game with 999 career points thanks to a school-record 44-point effort in a game against Searsport Wednesday. She missed her first shot of Friday’s game but put back an offensive rebound 20 seconds into the first quarter to reach the milestone.

The 6-foot-6 center becomes the third Dexter player to score 1,000 points. The first was Shawna McKenney and the second was former Dexter standout Ashley Ames, Mallory Ames’ sister. Ashley Ames, who plays basketball at the University of Maine-Fort Kent, presented the game ball to her sister.
