Wayside theatre's youth theatre classes
Monday, January 20, 2003
Wayside Theatre will shortly be holding registrations for its second series of Youth Theatre classes. These classes will be directed by Robert Keniston, assisted by his wife, Raelene, on Saturday afternoons for a total of ten weeks. No experience or previous training is ncessary, and boys and girls in grades 2 through 7 throughout the area are invited to join this exciting program. The fee will be $10 per child per class ($100 per session), paid in advance. Grades 2 through 4 will meet from 10 AM until noon, and grades 5 through 7 will meet from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. each session will include at least one stage production in which all the students will be involved.

Classes will include instruction in theatre terminology (i. e., stage left vs. stage right, what a "flat" is, what a "cue" is, etc.), coaching in stage presence, voice projection, understanding roles, etc. Such classes help to build self-confidence, teach the importance of commitment to a goal, show children how to work well within a group, and makeit easier for them to speak in front of a group.

Bob Keniston is a retired elementary school teacher who has much experience in directing school productions, and who has served as director for Theatre Camps for children and the first session of Wayside Theatre's Youth Theatre. He and his wife, Raelene, are both accomplished actors who have appeared on many local stages, including Lakewood Theatre.

If you are interested in such a program for your children, please call June Woodman at 924-8813 for more information regarding the starting date.
