DEXTER _ KILL-A-WATT Electricity Usage Monitors and educational tool kits are now available for free checkout at the Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter. The monitors will help you detect the "energy thieves" in your home by helping you determine which appliances and electronics are using the most electricity even when they are turned off. These monitors plug into an electrical outlet and then you plug in any appliance to get a readout on how much electricity is being used. You can then calculate how much money it's costing you by multiplying the kilowatt hours used by our electricity cost of $0.18 per kilowatt hour. The educational toolkit includes a home energy savings tips brochure and energy tips bookmark which you may keep. For more information on the monitors at the Dexter library, call 924-7292. The Kill A Watt® monitor and educational toolkit will be on loan in most Maine public libraries as part of a state-wide community outreach campaign by Efficiency Maine, a program of the Maine Public Utilities Commission. Interested residents outside of the Dexter area should call their local library to see if the monitors and tool kits are available for checkout. |
