DEXTER FISH & GAME ASSOCIATION, INC.
Wednesday,February 06, 2002
The Regional Fisheries Biologist will be making a guest appearance at the Dexter Fish & Game Clubhouse on Thursday Feb. 21 at 7 P.M. The clubhouse in on the Number 10 Road in Dexter. It is the same building as the Wassookeag Snowmobile Clubhouse. He wants information on Lake Wassookeag and the fisherman's opinions. The Dept. did a trap netting study this past fall to determine the condition of the fisheries. There were Lake Trout and Salmon caught and released but they didn't catch any Brook Trout. The Dept. is concerned about the Brook Trout and if there are any that make it through the winter. He wants to ask our opinion on what to stock. Should the salmon stocking program be stopped, should they stock more Brook Trout, should they put a ban on smelt fishing all together. To have a healthy salmon fishery then you have to give up something. Salmon eat loads of smelt and if the fisherman and bait dealers want to catch smelt, then the salmon will go hungry. We have seen a drastic reduction of smelt in this lake in the past 3 years. The Dept. has stocked smelt eggs in the tributaries the past two spring seasons. The smelt are now about two inches long and the salmon are healthy once again. We need to make some decisions about the future of Lake Wassookeag fisheries. Please come out and make a difference for the better.

FLY TYING MEETINGS
Starting Tuesday February 12 at 7 p.m. at the clubhouse, we will get together and tie flies. There will be no classes, but if you want to learn how it's done, then this is the place to be. There will be no fee, just a donation to cover expenses and materials used. If you do tie, bring your tools, portable light, materials and fly book. We will be going over our fly books to see what we need to make up. These fly tying meetings will be held the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday evenings from February to May. If you or your child would like to learn to tie flies and need a ride in please call Ron at 924-3886. I'm sure we can find someone to bring you in.

KID'S FISHING DERBY
This year, 2002 we again will be selling raffle tickets to raise money for the same project. I have collected hand tied fishing flies from fly tyers from all over the world. They have heard about the project and sent in flies to help out. The tickets are $1.00 each or a book of 8 for $5.00 You can buy tickets from Ron McKusick, Kelvin Hartley, Albert Hartley, and others in the club. Thank you for helping us give the gift of a Life Time Fishing License. We will draw winners on May 4, 2002. Just in time for fly fishing season. Each winner will receive 10 flies that have a value of $20.00 or more. The more flies we have donated, the more winners there will be. Call Ron at 924-3886 for more information.
