On Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, 2003, A Fierce Chase Cross Country Ski Trails in Monson, Maine will sponsor the second Annual Women's Wellness Day. This special event is being offered to celebrate women's interest in the sport of cross country skiing. Many women are becoming attracted to the sport for health-conscious reasons. Cross country skiing develops balance, coordination, and strength, as well as increases lean muscle mass, decreases body fat, and improves bone mineral density. In addition, many women are finding cross country skiing is an easy way to also help manage stress, while providing them an opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors in the winter. Women's Wellness Weekend will include a free group lesson for all skier ability levels at 10:00am both days, followed by presentations on the topics of naturopathic medicine, herbal treatments, yoga, acupuncture, massage therapy, environmental health, and a demonstration by a local women's African drumming group. Skiers may attend as many wellness topics of their interest. There will be time following each presentation for questions and skiing. Food and beverages will be available. Nonskiers are welcomed as well - you don't have to be a skier to come and listen to the wellness presentations. Bring your mother, your daughter, grandmother, aunt, niece, sister or friend. There will be drawings throughout each day for prizes and a drawing each day for a free pair of skis. Part of the proceeds for the weekend will be donated to Womancare, a domestic violence intervention and prevention project located in Dover-Foxcroft which serves Piscataquis county as well as communities in Somerset and Penobscot counties. Women's Wellness Weekend promises to bring the fun of skiing together with valuable information on women's wellness, as well as being an opportunity to help support the end of domestic violence in our communities. A Fierce Chase XC Ski Trails is located one mile down the Elliotsville Rd. from Route 15 in Monson.
