DEXTER - Each year, the Ridge View Community School Builder's Club collects "Coins for the Closet" in an effort to help feed needy people in our community. This year, the club presented a check for $700 to the Dexter Area Food Closet. Donations were accepted at school and from the community. "Coins for the Closet" is a fund raising campaign in which members spend a (usually cold) Saturday morning in December outside the doors of local merchants accepting donations. Thanks to the local merchants who allowed collections at their stores: Dexter Variety, P & L Market, Tillson True Value, Toots Deli, and Bud's Hannaford. This year, the K-Kids helped out with a Hat Day in grades K-4 and the RVCS staff supported the project with a Jeans Day. This is the fourth big fundraiser this year for the Builder's Club. Money was also raised for the Alzheimer Foundation, UNICEF and Double B Equine Rescue Ranch. Our next fundraiser will benefit the American Red Cross and the annual lollipop sales is coming up soon. In conjunction with K-Kids the club also helped collect and distribute a barrel full of mittens and hats that went to children at the school who did not have their own. The community was very generous with their donation to the mitten cause. |
