Dexter's Winter Festival wouldn't be the same without the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club Radar Runs. This year it was a great success even with the sub zero temperatures. But for the racers, the temperatures made for perfect racing conditions. The club had over 70 entries in which to run on a well prepared ice or snow track. The tracks were 1000 feet in length giving the racers a great super chance for high speeds. The Racers came from several towns to include Dexter, Ripley, Dixfield, Starks, Sangerville, Newport, Guilford, Plymouth, St. Albans, Mt. Vernon, Harmony, Detroit, Sebec , Dover, Waterville and Milo. The high light of the event, besides the top speed of the day, was the presence of a Bald Eagle. The Eagle landed just a few feet away for the track to feed on a fish and seemed impressed by the attention he received for his appearance. The eagle made a swoop down the entire race track, circling around the spectators and gracefully left us, as if to say, "Speed is not important , it's all in presentation!" The trophy winners of the day were as follows: STOCK CLASSES IMPROVED CLASSES OPEN - 1st Billy Sawyer 132.9 / 2nd David Lefebare 126.8 MINI - 1st Norman Bashaw III 16.9/ 2nd Jeff Ludden 16.9 (Drag raced for tie breaker.)
