Dexter Regional High School holds "Student Led Conferences"
Monday, March 01, 2010
DEXTER - Dexter Regional High School held their annual Student Led Conferences on Wednesday, February 10th, 2010. The conferences were held for all students grades nine through eleven and the school had a wonderful turnout and show of support from the parents. The conferences are an extremely important part of the advisory program at Dexter Regional High School.

The Advisory Program was implemented in order to engage students in setting their academic goals and assessing their programs through the use of personal learning plans, portfolios, and student led conferences.

The conferences are held each year in an effort to increase parental involvement. Schools using student led conferences have indicated that students are proud and eager to share their work with their parents. The conference provides an opportunity for parents to meet with their student's advisor, who is assigned to their student during their freshman year. The advisors currently consist of high school staff members. They work with the students throughout their course of study at Dexter Regional High School for entire four years that the students are here.

The student and their advisors currently meet once a week to assess their strengths and learning styles and to identify their academics and personal goals. During the conference's the student's review their progress, strengths and concerns and learning goals with their parents and may also review their course selections for the upcoming year.

The faculty and staff were also available to talk to parents to discuss any questions or concerns. Dexter Regional High School would like to thank all of the parents who supported their students at the conferences!
