Dennis Lyford Executive Director of the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce announced that vacation planning would be featured at the Chamber's Annual Penquis Valley Region Expo to be held on April 5 & 6 at Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford. Pam Am Airways and Bangor International Airport will both have booths at the annual Expo said Lyford. The Chamber also plans to feature a display of The Maine Highlands to local residents. The Penquis Tourism Coalition plans to market Piscataquis and Penobscot Counties under the Maine Highlands name. Pam Am Airways will offer two round trips tickets to Florida as the grant prize drawing for the Expo. Tickets for Moosehead furniture and other value prizes will be available as well. Once again the Chamber show will offer a displays by Mid Maine Historical Society, the Army National Guard Humvee Unit as well as Foxcroft Academy's electric cars display. Returning to show once again will be the, The Cumberland County's Sheriffs Department Dare Program's Fatal Experience Project and the second Annual Webber Hardware Penquis Valley Belt Sander Race. The Cumberland County's Sheriff Dept. Fatal Experience project is designed to teach the danger of drinking and driving. The program will ask local participants to drive a golf cart through a maze of cones with special designed fatal vision goggles. The goggles will blur the participant's vision, giving them the same effect as drinking alcohol. The Chamber Expo will also host the second Annual Penquis Valley Belt Sander Race, which is being sponsored by Webber Hardware of Dover-Foxcroft. The Store agreed to offer gifts certificates of $100 to winners of the stock and modified classes. The belt sanders will race on a special built track designed by students of PCHS. Lyford explained that event is drag racing with power tools.
