The Advisory Program was implemented in order to engage students in setting their academic goals and assessing their programs through the use of personal learning plans, portfolios, and student led conferences.

The conferences are held each year in an effort to increase parental involvement. Schools using student led conferences have indicated that students are proud and eager to share their work with their parents.

The conference provides an opportunity for parents to meet with their student's advisor, who is assigned to their student during their freshman year. The advisors consist of high school staff and members from the community. They work with the students throughout their course of study at Dexter Regional High School for four years.

The student and their advisors currently meet once a week to assess their strengths and learning styles and to identify their academics and personal goals.

During the conference's the student's review their progress, strengths and concerns and learning goals with their parents and may also review their course selections for the upcoming year. The faculty and staff were available to talk to parents to discuss any questions or concerns.
