DEXTER - The Dexter Regional High School wrestling program recently walked away from the New England Championship in North Andover, MA with two place winners. This accomplishment enabled Dexter wrestler's to place 14th in a field of 135 teams from six New England states. Dexter entered their four state champs and scored 31.5 points - well ahead of the thirteen other Maine teams that were entered. Dexters entries included the undefeated Barkac brothers, Billy Greene and Amos Corson. Sophomore Jeremiah Barkac received a 5th place finish and senior Chris Barkac came in 2nd. The Barkac brothers join an elite group of Dexter wrestler's from the past that had placed in this annual tourney. In the 1970s coach David Gudroe placed 2nd and 3rd and Barry Goulett received 3rd place. Chris Barkac ends his high school career with a 138-7 record and achieved a 41-0 season record this year. Jeremiah Barkac has an identical season record of 41-0, Billy Greene 38-3 and Amos Corson 27-8. These four Dexter wrestlers have won twelve championships in the five tournaments they entered this season. |
