The Dexter Regional High School Key Club has recently taken part in the March of Dimes “Dime Challenge”. This fundraiser was a competition between schools in Northern and Eastern Maine through the months of January and February to raise funds for the March of Dimes foundation and to help this national organization prevent premature births and birth defects in America. Dexter Regional High School was one of fifteen schools that took part in this fundraiser; as well as Bangor, Brewer, and John Bapst High Schools and Hampden and Foxcroft Academy. The fundraiser had a few incentives for the schools involved. The school that raised the most money would receive a video dance sponsored by Z 1O7.3 radio station and one student will receive the opportunity to be a guest discjocky for the day.

Dexter Regional High School has participated in the Dime Drive since it's inception five years ago and has won once previously. This year the students were determined make up for their disappointing efforts last year, by raising $1,000. The students had to think of new and innovative ideas on how to raise the money fast and efficiently due to a late start in the March of Dimes competition. First, the students made the fundraiser a competition between the classes for Winter Carnival with the winning class receiving points towards the event. After Winter Carnival the students decided to make a competition between the students and staff, with the losers having four representatives being pied in front of the student body. After a few weeks of competition the staff won.

With all the fun and games over, Dexter Regional High School earned an amazing $2,053.76 for the March of Dimes fundraiser. This is the largest amount ever raised by one individual school during the competition, and the largest amount the Dexter Key Club has ever raised in one event. If one was to take the amount of money the Key Club earned and stretch is out in dimes, it would stretch further than a mile. This was a huge success for the Dexter Key Club and an even larger success for the fundraiser itself. Thank-you to all who took part in this fundraiser the Key Club is very proud of this accomplishment. The video dance that was won will be held on April 6th from 8-11 for the students at Dexter Regional High School.

The Key Club will also be participating in the March of Dimes walk-a-thon May 7th.
