Glenburn man returning with family to Dover-Foxcroft DOVER-FOXCROFT — George Woods of Glenburn has been named the new executive director of the Piscataquis Regional YMCA. Woods, who is controller and assistant treasurer of Interface Fabrics Group in Guilford, will begin his new job on April 8. His salary was set at $52,000 a year. "I'm very excited about the opportunity to serve the people of the Penquis region as the director of the Piscataquis YMCA," Woods said Monday. He called it a "great community" in which to live and work. Woods said he planned to move his family — wife, Melanie, and their three children — to Dover-Foxcroft, where he lived before moving to Glenburn. The job, Woods said, gave him a lifestyle change and the chance to serve people in the region. Woods, 37, was selected from a field of about 35 candidates from throughout the country, according to Dave Hansen, vice president of the 17-member YMCA board of directors. "His personal values are absolutely in line with the YMCA," Hansen said, Monday. So much so, that his nomination received unanimous support from the board. "He's well-known and well-respected," he said. Woods, a longtime resident of the region, previously served on the board of directors and was recognized as a policy volunteer for the YMCA a couple of years ago, according to Hansen. "He has the ability to carry the Y message to the community and facilitate collaboration with other community-service organizations," Hansen said. Woods places the importance of family first and his core values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility are the same as the YMCA's, he noted. |
