On Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 Dexter Regional High School will hold its “First Annual Science Fair” from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM featuring approximately 165 students between the grades of nine through twelve competing in two project categories. The categories include a “paper research project”, which will cover a topic of the student's interest and will contain a six to eight page written report, explaining their findings. The second category is an “Experimental Project.” Students in this division design and execute their own experiments following the scientific method of inquiry. Students are expected to follow extensive guidelines and will present to a panel of judges who are currently practicing in their science professions. Students must make it through the first round of judges before moving on to the second round of judges. There will be awards given out to the first four places in each category, and an “Honorable Mention” category. Each year, the names of winning recipients will be engraved on a special plaque which has been purchased, and will be proudly displayed outside the science rooms. The entire second floor of Dexter Regional High School will be utilized in order to display the projects, and the ATM room will have the Forensics Research & Design class which will be giving symposiums throughout the evening. This event is open to the public, and will also feature a “Kids Corner” where younger children will have the opportunity to win door prizes by performing special science related activities. Refreshments will also be available to purchase throughout the event, which will benefit fundraising activities for the school.
