DEXTER - In conjunction with the Maine Wardens Service, organizations in the towns of Pittsfield and Dexter are inviting area youth to come out and Get Hooked on Fishing this weekend. Dexter youth will get two opportunities to get Hooked on Fishing. On Thursday, May 12th the Maine Wardens Service will be on hand to assist the Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis as they bus fourth graders from Ridge View Community School to the Mill Pond behind Robinson Oil for a lesson in fishing. The kids will be supplied with poles and equipment and taught how to fish in the freshly stocked pond area. Any fish caught will be cleaned by volunteers and sent home with the kids. The pond will then be re-stocked for another opportunity for youth ages 15 and under to learn how to fish on Saturday, May 14th from 9 AM to 1 PM. Kids are asked to bring poles and bait to this event if they have them, but there will be some poles on hand to loan to those who don't have one. Once again, volunteers from the Kiwanis will be on hand to teach kids the ins and outs of fishing. The Dexter Hooked on Fishing is being sponsored by the Dexter Kiwanis Club. For more information contact Rocco Palumbo at 683-5050. The Pittsfield event will take place on Saturday, May 14th from 8 AM to 12 PM at Manson Park in the lower area near the parking lot. Children should bring fishing poles and be dressed for outside weather conditions. Volunteers will be on hand with tackle and worms, some extra fishing poles for those who need them, and plenty of fishing knowledge and experience to pass on to kids. The pond will be freshly stocked with fish for kids to catch. There will also be free hot dogs and hamburgers. The Pittsfield Hooked on Fishing event is being sponsored by the Pittsfield Police Department and will be held rain or shine (unless it is pouring rain). For more information contact the Pittsfield PD at 487-4439. |
