DEXTER - The Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter was recently awarded a grant from the Maine Nutrition Network to fund a summer reading program focused on nutrition as well as reading. The reading program, titled “Banquet of Books,” will run during the month of July and feature weekly programs that will introduce children to healthy snack choices, new and unusual fruits and vegetables, understanding recipes and following basic cooking directions.
Children enrolled in the reading program will help purchase the ingredients for a health banquet by reading as many books as possible during the course of the program. The program will conclude at the end of July with a banquet of nutritious foods prepared and cooked by the participants.
This program is open to all area children between the ages of 5 and 12. Information on signing up for the program will be distributed to children in local schools before the end of the school year.
The Abbott Memorial Library is located at 1 Church Street in Dexter. For more information contact the library at 924-7292.
