Free fishing days are coming
Wednesday, June 04, 2003
MAINE - On Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, you can fish for free on waterways throughout the state of Maine. Any person, except those whose license has been revoked or suspended, may fish on June 14 and 15 without a license. All other fishing regulations apply.

"These two days are a great way to get introduced to a lifetime hobby like fishing," said Peter Bourque, Director of Fisheries Program Development for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, "The kids are starting school vacation and it's Father's Day Weekend. Hey kids - Tell your dad you want to take HIM fishing! You might even buy him a new lure to try out."

"This is prime time fishing in Maine. Whether you want to fish for brookies in a small stream, or troll for salmon or togue in the North Country or catch a rainbow or brown trout in central or southern Maine. Bass should be very aggressive in the central and southern areas, as well as the Downeast Region. It's the perfect time to have some fun at very little cost," said Bourque.

The Free Fishing Days coincide with Father's Day Weekend each year. There also are two free fishing days in the winter that take place on the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Presidents Day.

"We want to encourage people to be outside, enjoying the outdoors, and fishing is a great way to do that," said Bourque, "Don't forget your camera, sunscreen and bugdope!"
