Tuesday, June 08, 2004
Bangor, Maine - The Jeffrey S. Parola Foundation will host its 10th Annual Jeffrey S. Parola Golf Tournament & Auction at the Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro, Maine, on Friday, June 11, 2004, at 8:00 a.m. ET. Proceeds from the golf tournament and auction will benefit Maine high school students and the surviving children of law officers who were killed in the line of duty.

Trooper Jeffrey S. Parola served as a Maine State Trooper for five years. He became a member of the Tactical Team and was in line to become a member of the Bomb Disposal Team. Jeffrey was 27 years old when he responded to a tactical team call and died in a fatal automobile accident on November 13, 1994. Only days before his death, he received the department’s Award for Bravery.

The Jeffrey S. Parola Foundation is a non-profit 501c(3) foundation made up of a nine-member board of directors, which conducts the business and affairs of the foundation. The foundation promotes the following purposes:

  • To provide scholarship funds to Maine residents pursuing post-secondary degrees leading to careers in law enforcement
  • To provide financial support to families of Maine law enforcement personnel who have experienced a work-related injury or death in the line of duty
  • To provide donations to Maine law enforcement agencies for safety training or for the purchase of safety-related equipment
To date, the foundation has awarded over 25 scholarships ranging from $250-$1,000 to high school students from the state of Maine. Many of the recipients have gone on to become law enforcement officers throughout New England.

The foundation has also given out several U.S. savings bonds to the surviving children of officers who were killed in the line of duty, and has made several large donations to the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) Association in memory of Jeffrey.

The foundation’s annual golf tournament is sold out for the tenth straight year, but the public is welcome to attend the auction, scheduled to take place at 2:00 p.m. ET following the golf tournament. Through the foundation’s partnerships with several companies and sports properties such as the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, Estée Lauder, MBNA, Chicago Bears, Toms of Maine, and Bethel Inn, it auctions and raffles off items such as:
