Dexter Historical Society Open House to offer "Hands On" behind-the-scenes tour
Monday, June 16, 2008
The Dexter Historical Society will hold a special informational Open House at both the Grist Mill Campus and the Abbott Museum, all day Saturday, June 28.

This Open House will offer a "Hands On" behind-the-scenes tour of all the society's activities and explanations of various volunteer opportunities.

Although the public may be familiar with the society's museum displays and gift shop offerings, they may not be aware of how many other activities are carried on. Participants will have a chance to learn what a docent does, what sorts of assistance with building maintenance and gardening work are available at the Grist Mill Campus. Activity stations at the Abbott Museum will offer a chance to try sales in the gift shop, to learn sources for genealogy research and to try answering a query, to understand how donations are cataloged and try processing an item. Copies of our By-laws and the "jobs" done by the officers will be available in the conference room. Many items of historical interest; books, newsletters from other historical societies, and transcriptions of historic letters and diaries will be available for perusal in the Lancaster Reading Room. Information about our summer programs and refreshments will be offered.

Participants will learn about the range of services offered by the society, as well as how they could use their abilities and interests to assist the work of the society to benefit both residents and visitors to our town.

For information call 924-5721.
