DEXTER - The Annual 4th of July Boat Parade will be held this year on Tuesday, July 4th on Lake Wassookeag. This year we will be celebrating the 20th year that the boat parade has circled the shores of Big Lake Wassookeag on Independence Day, bringing smiles and cheers to onlookers gathered in and around the bridge and picnic area, and camps all around the “big lake”. The boat parade was started in 1986 by Helen and Paul Clukey, both deceased residents of Dexter. The tradition has been kept alive, in their honor and loving memory, by daughters Diane Herring and Susan (Herring) Bogle, friend Sally Thompson, and all the other wonderful people that continue to participate in our town's traditional boat parade. The parade will start at 10:00 AM on Tuesday (the 4th) and boats should arrive at the “basin” by the bridge between 9:45 and 10:00. Come one; come all and join in the fun and celebration. |
