Any Deer Permit Deadline Nears
Wednesday, July 14, 2004
AUGUSTA, Maine -- Hunters wishing to hunt deer of either sex this season are reminded that their any-deer permit applications must be postmarked no later than July 15, or received at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife headquarters by 5:00 p.m. on July 15. Hunters also have until 11:59 p.m. on August 6 to apply online at www.mefishwildlife.com. To apply, you must have a current hunting license. You can only apply once.

Applications are available from most license agents and all regional headquarters and offices of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Applications were also mailed to those who applied last year.

Hunters can choose up to three Wildlife Management Districts for their permit, and if permits are available, they will be assigned by chance in order of their preference. If there are unallocated permits available in a district after the drawing, bonus deer permits will be issued for that WMD. Hunters must indicate on their application a WMD choice for a bonus permit to be considered.

The free any-deer permit allows hunting of deer of either sex in one of the 26 of 30 wildlife management districts that have permits available this year. Permits are chosen through a random drawing for each of the districts. There are 76,150 permits available this year.
