Wednesday, July 14, 2004
Governor's Cup AUGUSTA, Maine -- Members of the House gathered today in Governor John E. Baldacci's office to accept the Governor's cup, in honor of their victory in the Governor's Cup Charity Bass tournament held on June 12 on Cobbossee Lake.

The victorious house also donated their $1,000 in earnings to the Northern New England Chapter of the ALS Association in memory of Joe Mayo, the former Clerk of the House who passed away in 2002 after a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. The ALS Association is the only not-for-profit voluntary health agency dedicated solely to the fight against ALS, a disease that affects as many as 30,000 annually, with more than 5,600 people diagnosed each year.

The eighth annual Governor's Cup Charity Bass Tournament on Lake Cobbossee drew nearly 20 senators, representatives, legislative staff and the Governor. The catch, measure, and release tournament pitted members of the house against members of the senate. The House now leads the series 5-3.
