DEXTER - The Dexter Firemen’s auction is set to take place Thursday, August 6th through Saturday, August 8th at the old Dexter Shoe parking lot on Water Street in Dexter. The auction is the fire department’s major fundraiser of the year and takes place from 6 to 9 PM on Thursday and Friday, and from 6 PM to sell-out on Saturday. Funds raised during this event support the department’s charitable causes, including scholarships for area seniors pursuing higher education, fire prevention awareness for school children, and more. Donations this year have been coming in slowly, but it is starting to pick up now that the weather has improved. Every year area merchants come through in a big way to help with auction items. Retail stores donate nice items and gift certificates. Banks contribute savings bonds to be auctioned off. Furniture stores and manufacturers donate new furniture, and individuals offer used items in good condition.
