Stolen flagpole returned to Dexter
DEXTER — Charges are pending against two Garland men in connection with the theft of American flags and the vandalism to flagpoles.

A person not connected with the theft or vandalism on Friday turned over seven flags, two red, white and blue strips of bunting and a flagpole to Police Chief David Clukey.

From information gained during the department’s investigation into the theft, Clukey made a telephone call to the unidentified person and inquired about the items. That person confirmed their whereabouts and agreed to bring in the flags, according to Dexter police Dispatcher Chris Pooler.

One of the men will be charged with theft and criminal mischief and the other with possession of stolen property, Pooler said Friday.

Earlier this week, a Dexter woman provided police with a lead in the theft of items from the municipal grandstand and the bus garage at Crosby Park.

An arrest warrant was issued for the man, who is reportedly out of state this week. The woman, who was unaware the town had posted a reward for information about the theft, will receive $500 donated by a local man.

In addition, police took a 13-year-old into custody this week for his alleged involvement in the vandalism to the ninth hole at the municipal golf course.
