Penquis CAP Head Start, a preschool program for children ages 3 to 5, is registering children for fall 2003. This low- or no-cost program for income-eligible families received an award for excellence from the Federal Regional Office of Head Start in Boston. The Head Start program provides children with educational activities to help them develop mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. Head Start works with families to provide the following services to children enrolled in the program: medical exam and necessary follow-up, immunizations, dental exam and necessary follow-up, developmental screenings, nutritional services and social services (directed toward child's family).
Parents are welcome to visit a nearby Head Start center to learn more about this award-winning program. Head Start operates 4 days a week, 4 hours a day, September through May, at the following locations: VFW Hall on Cedar Street in Dexter, Parkman Preschool at the McKusick Elementary School, Dover Head Start/Child Care on Autumn Avenue in Dover-Foxcroft, Milo Head Start in Derby and on the Stetson Road in Exeter.
