Snowe, Collins Announce 4 Rural Development Grants

WASHINGTON D.C. - Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today announced a total of $311,310 in federal funding to four projects within Maine. Awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the rural development grants will assist in economic development planning and the renovation of commercial buildings within the community.

The projects funded by the USDA grant awards are as follows:
* $99,900 to the Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Tribe, for the renovation of a commercial building within the tribe for the Passamaquoddy Development and Supply Company.

* $150,000 to the Passamaquoddy Indian Township, for the renovations to housing for tribal wardens and foresters.

* $44,660 to the University of Maine System, for the economic development planning of Piscataquis County through business and resident surveys, community forums and land-use mapping.

* $16,750 to the Dexter Historical Society, for the renovation of a historically significant building into a museum, archive resource and community showcase.
