Commissioner to unveil interactive CD on snowmobile safety
Friday, October 01, 2004
AUGUSTA, Maine -- Commissioner Roland D. Martin will be on hand at the Maine Snowmobile Show on Saturday, October 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center to unveil the new Ride Right-Ride Smart Interactive CD, produced by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Snowmobile Association. Visitors to the show will get to experience the CD on one of ten computers set up at the show.

The goal of the CD is to make it as easy as possible for everyone to learn snowmobile safety, whether you are heading out on the trail for the first time, or even if you are an experienced rider.

The interactive CD consists of five instructional videos which simulate a trip to northern Maine. At the end of each video, there is a quiz. If you pass the quiz, you get a full tank of gas, and you are allowed to continue your trip. If you miss more than thirty percent of the questions, your tank will be empty, and you will have to review the video and consult the operating instructions before retaking the quiz. At the end of the course the student may print and take the whole test, then use it as two hours of credit towards the full DIF&W snowmobile safety course.

The Interactive CD is the latest educational effort between the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Snowmobile Association. A two-hour Ride Right instructional course debuted last year. It consisted of a half hour video and book. The new Interactive CD combines the video and printed material on an Interactive CD.

The CD will be available at no charge from DIF&W or the Maine Snowmobile Association at events throughout the winter. Folks wishing to order it by mail may do so by sending $5.00 to the MSA P.O. Box 80 Augusta 04332.

The annual Maine Snowmobile Show runs October 1-3 at the Augusta Civic Center. The Eighth Annual Maine Snowmobile Show features the latest model Snowmobiles, Accessories, Trail Grooming Equipment, Trail Maps, Guides, Safety Information, Tourism Groups from Maine, New Brunswick & Quebec.
