DEXTER - For the last few years Womancare has sponsored candle light vigils in area communities through out Piscataquis and southwestern Penobscot Counties to recognize national domestic violence awareness month. Dexter is served by Womancare in a variety of ways. We staff an outreach office every Friday morning in Dexter from 8:30 to noon upstairs in the municipal building. During this time an advocate is available to speak with anyone needing services related to domestic abuse. Walk ins are welcome or you may call our Dover-Foxcroft office to schedule an appointment. We also have a presence in the Dexter schools, providing prevention education around teen dating violence. We have a real tie to the Dexter people, especially since the double murders of Mindy Gould and Treven Cunningham in December of 1999. Please join us Monday, October 26th, at 6:00 P.M. as we remember them and others who have died due to domestic violence, celebrate survivors and affirm a nonviolent future. Together we can make a difference. Together we can change the world. |
