EMS DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT TO THE TOWN OF DEXTER
Wednesday, October 28, 2005

October 2005
From October 1 through October 25 62 runs were handled from the Dexter ambulance base which I think I would be safe to venture a guess would be the busiest month in the history of Dexter Ambulance; a quick mathematical analysis shows us that if this pace were maintained through all 12 months we would do 905 runs from this base. Only 2 times during the month did a truck need to come from Dover to cover Dexter area calls at all other times we had either the scheduled Dexter crew or a stand by crew from Mayo covering the Dexter base. 40 of these runs were in the Town of Dexter accounting for 65% of the total run volume. The following table breaks down runs from the Dexter base by town:

Town of Emergency Number of Runs % of Total Volume From Dexter Base
Dexter 40 65
Corinna 8 13
Ripley 4 7
Garland 2 3
Newport 2 3
Sangerville 2 3
Dover-Foxcroft 1 2
Exeter 1 2
Pittsfield 1 2
St. Albans 1 2

In October we began using the second truck based at Dexter a Mayo owned truck to do as many out of town runs as possible to reduce the wear and tear on the Dexter owned vehicle and we plan to continue this as long as Dexter owns their ambulance. Beginning in November we have moved one of our call crews from Dover to Dexter so that both trucks at the Dexter base will be staffed from 8:00 am until midnight 7 days per week. The second crew will be a call crew staffed with a paramedic or intermediate about 90% of the time and a basic EMT the rest. The primary Dexter base crew will still be a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week paramedic crew. We are also now staffing Corinna approximately 95% of the time and at least 75% of the time with a paramedic or intermediate crew reducing the need for Dexter assistance significantly.

Respectfully submitted,

Brian K Mullis, WEMT-P, I/C
EMS Director
Mayo Regional Hospital
