DEXTER - The Dexter Historical Society will be hosting a reading and book signing at the Abbott Museum at 12 Church Street on Saturday, Nov. 13.from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ned Smith, an author from the Greater Bangor area will be on hand to read selections from his new book, “The 22nd Maine Volunteer Infantry In The Civil War: A History and Roster.” Ned will talk about the book and read selections pertaining to Dexter and will answer any questions from the public. Signed copies of the book will be available to buy and light refreshments will be served. The book features a great deal of material pertaining to Dexter, as more than 20 Dexter men served in the regiment in the Louisiana theater. Dexter native Franklin Ireland is featured including many letters he wrote and letters from his family to him as well. Franklin and his family lived on Grove Street in the former Marsh house. Other Dexter men are also featured, including Captain Henry Wood, Charles Farrar and William Hall, whose sketch is the cover design for the book. For more information, call the museum at 924-5721. |
