Beyond Plumbing Exhibit at Dexter Library
Monday, November 05, 2012
DEXTER - The Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter is hosting a display of the art of Joe Kennedy of Ripley. With 25 years of plumbing experience, Joe Kennedy has expanded into the creation of art utilizing the materials of his trade, he calls his creations "Beyond Plumbing"

Working from his studio in West Ripley, Kennedy has created whimsical works of art using worn out shower valves, traps, faucets, handles, spouts and copper, brass and chrome pipes.

"I chose the phrase "Beyond Plumbing" because it, of course, signifies the obvious plumbing aspect of the art but also suggests that there is more. For me, the challenge and enjoyment is seeing familiar parts of the trade transformed into pleasing forms from relics of a useful past whose time has ended but are reborn to again serve us in a different but meaningful and fulfilling way."

All the sculptures are for sale.

The work will be exhibited at the library through the month of November. FMI: 924-7292
