Position: Police Officer - Patrolman
Compensation: $26 - $39K
Job Description: This is a Category-A full-time wage-hour position with the Town of Dexter. This is field work in carrying out general duty police work, responsible for the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and local ordinances. Individual is responsible for performing routine police assignments and responding to calls for assistance relayed by a regional dispatcher. Work involves an element of personal danger and individual must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise independent judgment in meeting emergencies. Individual shall meet the physical standards prescribed by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and the Town of Dexter. Officer must be able to effectively communicate verbally and possess the knowledge and ability to formulate written reports. Individual shall be required to develop and demonstrate skills in the use of firearms, operation of motor vehicles, and expertise to operate computers.
Search and Application Process: This position will become vacant on or about April 19, 2008. First preference in filling the vacancy shall be given to the placement of a current municipal employee that possesses the necessary qualifications and interest in filling the position. This includes officers currently performing duties as Reserve Officers for the Town of Dexter Police Department. In order to be considered for this position individuals must submit a completed employment application, resume, and cover letter to the Dexter Police Chief no later than close of business on April 15, 2008. Interested individuals must be currently employed by the Town of Dexter and meet the minimum qualifications specified in this job announcement. All successful applicants must meet the physical standards prescribed by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and the Town of Dexter, and have successfully completed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy 100-Hour Course.
Preference will be given to MCJA trained individuals for the full time position.

July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2007 Our Officers, among other charges arrested or summonsed 43 people for outstanding warrants, 52 on Drug charges and 34 Drunk Drivers. Officer Jeff Gotreau completed 18 weeks of Basic Police Training at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Officer Jon Brown completed a two-week Drug Recognition Expert course at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. All of our Officers completed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy requirements of 20 Hours of annual training to include: Firearms Re-qualification, New Law Updates, Policy Review, Homeless Awareness, Drug Impairment and a variety of elective courses. Reserve Officers Gerald Kirby, Kyle Wilson, Steve Spaulding and Gary Decker resigned during the past year due to other employment. Three new Reserve Officers Kevin Dunn, Warren Ackerman, Tim Hall, Henry Fortin and Mat Estes were hired.
