The TOWN OF DEXTER 2004 ANNUAL REPORT for the period covering July 2003 thru June 2004 are now available. Reports may be picked up at the following locations:
This project was the product of a joint effort of the Town of Dexter, Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis, Dexter Regional Development Corporation, and the Dexter Historical Society. The key part of the project entailed the construction of a gazebo that would complement the covered bridge and become the central feature of the Wayside Park. Additional enhancements to the park included the placement of prefabricated concrete steps providing access to the park area from Route 23, new signage, installation of a utility pole, area lighting and power receptacles in the gazebo. Landscaping included the construction of two flowerbeds that flank the front of the gazebo and expansion of existing flowerbeds. The location of the park and placement of the gazebo provide an excellent location for concerts and special public events. Our planning for the initiative actually began in the Fall of 2003 as an effort to help enhance the attractiveness of "downtown Dexter" and expand regional recreational opportunities. During the months that followed we began development of a plan that would eventually be submitted to the Department of Transportation for consideration in their 2004 Gateways Program. The Town was subsequently successful in acquiring the grant that provided the bulk of the funding for the project. The remaining costs of were paid for with funding from the Town as well as generous contributions from individuals and local service organizations.
