Submitted by Lynn McKusick - "If you think baron ground, wind and below freezing temperatures would stop the Wacky Winter Circus Parade from coming to Town, think again! It was delightful and warming to see the explosion of color and to hear the musical circus tunes travel through downtown Dexter to celebrate the 2006 Dexter Winter Festival . An exceptional turnout indeed!"
A few highlights of the parade consisted of funny clowns, wacky animals of all kinds, trapeze girls, snowmobiles jumping through hoops of fire, a ringmaster, circus games, antique snowmobiles and a bush hog attached to a snowmobile!
The Wacky Circus Parade participants loaded their sleds onto trailers and made they way down the road to the Wassookeag Snowmobile Clubhouse, on the Number Ten Road in Dexter, where their well deserved applause, trophies and prize money awaited them. The Parade Judges did a terrific job placing the winners of the event and the results are as follows:
Best Decorated Sled/Float-Business Category:
First place-Maine Highlands Credit Union
Second place-Dexter Lumber and Third place-Del's Router Tilling Service.
Best Decorated Sled/Float-Family/Organization Category:
First place-Wakefield Family & Friends
Second place-Ripley Trail Riders and Third place-the Wyman's.
Best Costume:
First Place-Wakefield Family & Friends
Second place-Maine Highlands Credit Union
Third place-Ripley Trail Riders.
Best Antique Sled:
First place-Mel Randall III with a '68 Johnson Ski Horse
Second place-Dexter Lumber with a '69 Artic Cat Panther
Third place-Randy Nye with an '84 Yamaha V Max.
Best of Show: Wakefield Family and Friends
Youngest Participant: Alyvia Anderson, 2 year old on the Maine Highlands Credit Union Float.
