5th Annual Winter Festival 2005
February 19-20 the Town of Dexter, Dexter Merchants, and the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club held the 5th annual Winter Festival on Lake Wassookeag.

The theme for this year's festival is "Super, Sizzling, Summer, Sensation"!

  • Tri-County Tech Ice Fishing Derby with a $1000 Silent Auction provided by Maine Military in Newport and Brewer.
Radar-Run - The Wassookeag Snowmobile Club will host the event on Lake Wassookeag at the Dexter Recreation Area off Route 23. At 8 AM registration will begin with competition continuing until 2 PM. The entry fee will be $5 for one run or $10 for three runs. Track distance is 1,000 ft.

Poker Run Winners
The Wasssookeag Snowmobile Club held a poker run during the 2005 Winter Festival weekend of February 19 & 20.
The winning places were:

Saturday
First Place- Justin Dean
Second Place - Brandon Emerson
Third Place - Robert Hughes
Sunday
First Place - Roger Wyman
Second Place - Ronnie Grant
Third Place - Gary Burton

Winter Festival Dance - Saturday night at the K of C Hall in Dexter. Doors open at 7:30PM and a DJ will be playing until midnight. Program includes Maine Military's Silent Auction and announcement of winners and presentation of awards for the Snow Sculpture Competition. The Maine Military Silent Auction consists of $500 worth of merchandise and will be conducted by Frank Spizuoco. Cost is $5 per person at the door.

Snowmobile Parade - Parade participants will gather along ITS 85(railroad bed) at the intersection of McFarland Street beginning at 10:30 AM on Sunday. The parade will begin promptly at 11 AM. Judging will take place as the parade passes Motor Supply Company at the intersection of Grove and Dam Streets . Awards will be presented immediately following the parade at the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club. No entry fee.

Snow Sculpture Competition - Competition is open to individuals, organizations, businesses, and school groups. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to winners in each category. The competition sites will be located in the vicinity of Lakeshore Lunch on Lake Wassookeag and at Dexter High School.
