Wassookeag Snowmobile Club News & Dexter Winter Festival
Submitted by Lynn McKusick WSC Secretary - DEXTER - Can a Winter Festival happen without snow?... "You bet cha"! The Town of Dexter and the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club made it happen despite the lack of snow.

The theme, A WACKY WINTER CIRCUS COMES TO TOWN may be better suited as "A Wacky Wainy Winter Comes to Wassookeag"!

* Friday, February 17, the DRHS Winter Carnival Banners instead of the snow sculptures and the Harold Wilkins Memorial Scholarship Ride In was postponed.

Dexter Winter Festival 2006 School Banner Awards
The Wassookeag Snowmobile Club and the Town of Dexter included the Dexter Regional High School Winter Carnival Banner's in their Festival Agenda. Due to the lack of snow, snow sculptures were replaced with a Banner Competition between students from each level of high school. The carnival theme for the high school was the "Olympics" but banners were geared toward the up coming basketball tournaments to be held in Bangor. Each banner receives a trophy and cash award to be given to operation graduation for that class.

The results:

  1. 1st place trophy and $100 to the Junior Class of 2007
  2. 2nd place trophy and $75 to the Freshman Class of 2009
  3. 3rd place trophy and $50 to the Seniors Class of 2006
  4. 4th place trophy and $25 to the Sophomore Class of 2008.

* Saturday, February 18 the Radar Runs

* The Town Snow Sculpture competition was canceled

* Winter Festival Dance at the K of C Hall was held and the Maine Military Auction. Maine Military Supply of Dexter donated $500 worth of merchandise to be auctioned off at the dance. The proceeds from the auction will be used by the club for future winter festival expenses.

The North Counrty Riding Club cancelled the horse and wagon ride due to the frigid winds

* Fireworks were held 7 pm on Little Lake Wassookeag.

* Sunday February 19 the Snowmobile Parade. The parade route was from McFarland Street ( near the formally Dexter Shoe Lot) and continued down Lower Main, through downtown Dexter and will continue on to Grove Street, briefly stopping at Motor Supply and continuing to the Wassookeag Snowmobile Clubhouse on the Number Ten Road.

* The Clubhouse was open from 8 am thru 3 pm. And don't forget the Tri-County Tech Fishing Derby on Lake Wassookeag.
